I’m excited to announce that Alex and Elizabeth Shuhan will be visiting Utah next week, and will present a series of master-classes for both horn and flute. In addition, they will present a recital of music by French composers with highly regarded pianist Jed Moss. Seven months ago I took the plunge and purchased a new triple horn, an Eb-Bb-F horn made by German craftsman Engelbert Schmid. This has been an interesting and enjoyable pursuit, which continues to present new challenges and opportunities. I have listed some of the pros and cons of my experience below, but first a little background.
Last week I traveled to New Orleans to perform with the Louisiana Philharmonic, conducted by Music Director Carlos Miguel Prieto. The program included works by Richard Strauss (Don Quixote) and Berlioz (Romeo and Juliet).
